As house painters in Fort Collins, we know that most DIY-ers can tackle painting a room by themselves without needing to hire painting contractors. However, it requires planning and preparation to achieve professional results and that’s why it’s worth spending the time and doing the job right. Today we’re sharing a few of our favorite tips to help your painting project go faster and smoothly. These tips should help you get out of those painting clothes and into your nice, freshly painted room.
- Don’t skip the prep work! It may seem like a hassle, but it’s worth all the time. We suggest saving some time and freeing up your hands by wearing your painter’s tape. You can use twine and hang it around your neck or, if your hands are small enough, you can wear it around your wrist like a bracelet.
- If you have to make repairs, make sure you use quick-drying filler. Many of these will change colors to indicate that they’re dry, leaving out the guesswork as to whether you can sand and move on to your painting project.
- If you’ve got an awkward object you need to cover, like a toilet tank in your bathroom, then try using Glad Press & Seal Wrap as a masking material. Unlike a drop cloth, this will stay put and protect your objects.
- If you have awkward places or need to do trim, use a paint pad. This will ensure that cutting in and around molding and windows is a faster, neater job.
